In Tennessee, the honest answer is: sometimes — it depends on what you’re signing.

Tennessee law doesn’t require witnesses for most notarized documents, but some documents—like wills—do require two witnesses, and if your form has witness lines or the receiving agency requests witnesses, you’ll need to provide them.

Quick practical rule

If your document has:

  • Witness signature lines → you need witnesses.

  • No witness lines → you usually don’t, unless the recipient says so.
